Trans Atlantic Cruise 2011

Rome to Miami

across the Atlantic Ocean

In November 2011, we flew overnight to Rome, via Philadelphia. Arriving early morning in Rome we were met at the airport by Oceania cruises port staff. They hustled us and our baggage aboard a bus for a brief driving tour of Rome. We saw the Vatican, Parthenon and other ruins. The bus took us to the port city of Civitavechia where we boarded our ship, the MARINA.

We left port at sundown traveling up the Italian coast. We passed the place where subsequently in January 2012 the cruise ship COSTA CONCORDIA struck a rock and was sunk. It's Captain was apparently 3 or 4 miles off the route and was passing close to shore so the Captain could wave at a friend! Fortunately, our Captain was not so inclined and we passed the night safely.

This cruise was 16 days with stops at Barcelona, Spain - Tangiers, Morocco - Funchal, Madeira (in the middle of the Eastern Atlantic) - Hamilton, Bermuda. So we had twelve sea days, which we enjoy very much.

The photographs below are a distillation of over 1000 pictures I took over two plus weeks. I've decided to make up several YouTube videos displaying my photos of this trip. So below you will find links YouTube to see each video. Be sure to return here to click on the next link.
