Black Sea 2011
Athens to Istanbul
via the Black Sea
In July 2011, we flew overnight to Athens, via Philadelphia. Arriving early morning in Athens we checked into the Intercontinental Hotel. Carole rested and I took the hotel shuttle bus downtown to Syntagma Square where the Greeks had been rioting. Cocktails in the evening on the rooftop bar of the Intercontinental were spectacular, overlooking the Acropolis with the Parthenon in its full glory .
We cruised then to Ephesus Turkey, then through the Dardanelles and Bosphorus right through the heart of Istanbul into the Black Sea. Then we went to Yalta in the Ukraine, Sochi Russia, back to the Ukraine to visit Sebastopol and Odessa. We visited Constanta Romania and Nessebur Bulgaria before disembarking in Istanbul
We stayed for two days in the Istanbul Ritz Carlton Hotel. Our poor fortune was that they ran out of regular rooms so had to give us a four room suite! We loved every minute of it.
The photographs below are a distillation of over 1000 pictures I took over two weeks. Most of the originals have been cropped and enhanced in one way or another. Additionally, I've REDUCED THE SIZE considerably in order to speed up download time. I will happily share my photos with anyone interested. I'll be glad to send you the full sized originals or any modification thereof.
Each page below has "thumbnail" images. You may click on the thumbnail to see a larger view, although this is not the full high resolution image I have for most. Additionally, if you are interested, you may right-click on the enlarged view, then save a copy to your computer by clicking on "Save Picture As..". Alternatively, you may describe the photo to me and I will send you an e-mail of the high-resolution original.
